Stepping Up In The Workplace

We don’t want to admit it, but we sometimes secretly resent our superiors. Hey, it’s a tough job and no one should ever get into a leadership role wanting to be liked. Their lack of caring for employees is something no one should tolerate. Usually, when one manager is doing something they shouldn’t be, another manager will pull them to the side. If not this way, the issue will be brought to senior management.

This is of course if the company you work for is excellent at maintaining high-quality at all levels of the hierarchy. Unfortunately, some workers have experienced the opposite whereby they see things that are wrong, occurring over and over again. You can be the person that steps up in your workplace, if you know how.

Supply hiccups

The stereotypical scenario of a workplace is, the managers have a lot of work they need the employees to push out, as more is building up. This could be in a marketing company that needs to service all it’s clients as fast as possible as new clients are filing orders every day. Managers have the right to get you to work faster if a large amount needs completing quickly. You also have the right to complain when there’s not enough work coming through.

This is usually because of supply chain hiccups. Your sector of the working day may be ready to go but another department has messed up. Now it has to redo something in order to pass a product onto the next stage i.e. you. If this kind of mishap happens all too often you have every right to notify your manager. Someone will have to assume responsibility. This is normally another part of the workforce or the managers themselves. Either way, you have highlighted a hole, and your diligence will be noted.

General safety

No employee has power over health and safety policy at their work. However, they can and should influence it. Safe practices that are either turned a blind eye on by manager or simply not known could end up seriously hurting you. Then, by all means, go hell for leather by hiring a personal injury lawyer that will not only demand compensation for any work you miss due to your injury but will also get more than enough money from the employer to pay for your medical bills as well as physical and mental suffering.

But, before it gets to that stage, make a note of the issue. Document it with video or photographic evidence, and bring it up with your manager. You should get praised for looking out for the health and well being of others. This helps the company and the managers avoid an embarrassing incident of lackluster care for employees.



Occasionally, you have to take a deep breath and step on some toes. Albeit, you should do it gently but with a firm undertone so as to not rub anyone’s ego the wrong way. Make your case, but always back it up with evidence.
