Kid-Friendly DIY Project

Who loves crafts? I love crafts and my daughter does too. If you have an itty bitty, then it will take a lot of patience, but the memories made outweigh any difficulties you may experience getting to the finished product. Since I have a toddler, we pretty much stick to finger and toe painting. However, she enjoys coloring pictures and helping mommy with paper DIYs for décor in her room.

Bubble Party

My kid loves bubble parties. I am not sure I’ve met child who hasn’t loved playing in room full of bubbles. We have bubble parties when we are unable to go outside and enjoy the sunshine. But, sometimes we wake up and regardless of the weather, we are in the mood for a bubble party.  It’s kind of an everyday thing at our house.  If you need something to get their spirits and energy up, have a bubble party. However, just make sure you have enough energy to blow the bubbles…you will be exhausted. At the pediatrician, they always turn their bubble machine on after my daughter receives her shots…who knows, maybe they sell a similar machine online.

Restaurant with Indoor Play Area

It’s rainy, so going to the park is out. But, thank God for restaurants that have practically built indoor parks for your child’s entertainment. Chick-Fil-A and McDonalds are two restaurants that I know will more than likely have an indoor play area suitable for your child. Some places even have a dedicated space for smaller children.  I’ve never been to an establishment where they required me to order food to access the play area. I typically do, however, don’t feel bad if you are not interested in spending money. This is still an option for you.

Faux Swimming Pool (the Tub)

My child loves bath time and I think her favorite part is playing with her water toys. But, splash time should not be limited to baths and outdoor adventures. Dress the kiddos in their swimming gear and let them splash and play with toys in the tub. While prolonged submersion in water may not be recommended for the skin, it is definitely a fun filled activity that can easily chew away 30 minutes. Just be sure to keep an eye on your kiddos…anything can happen in the blink of an eye.

Movie and Popcorn

I used to love watching a movie and eating popcorn with my siblings when I was a kid. It is the perfect activity for when it’s raining outside and you can’t go outside to play. My toddler enjoys the movie in parts. She will watch about 10 minutes and then she gets antsy and wants to move around. I’ve found that movies that have musical selections within are best for her. She will watch for a little while and then dance when the music comes on. I love to see her twirl and sing along to the movie Frozen.

These are awesome activities that your child is sure to enjoy. Some activities may be more suitable for specific age groups, but there is something for everyone from toddlers to teenagers. Don’t let a rainy day spoil your fun. Get active and as a family, have some fun!

My little would love that. I am too much of a girly girl to even encourage it. I might have to find the little adventurer inside of me.

  2. Yes! Very nice list of rainy day activities. My oldest son was very laid back and would pretty well hang with me all day. My 2nd son needed outside time like oxygen. That made rainy days very challenging. We did some of the things that you mentioned. Crafts, well… we tried… It usually was a mess, but I finally realized that the experience of doing the craft was much more important than how it actually turned out. We have hit up those indoor play areas before and I have also let them play in the bathtub. Another rainy day activity that we enjoyed was cooking together. I used to bake cookies with both my sons. Great suggestions, and it sounds like you are doing a wonderful job at being Momma! Keep it up!

Baby Z is too young to help in the kitchen but she enjoys watching the cupcakes rise when I am baking. Other than that, she just gets in the way and makes mama fear for her safety. Thanks for the encouragement and reading my post! 🙂

  3. These are great ideas! Thank goodness for restaurants that can help stir-crazy kids and their families! I know I loved playing in the ball pit as a kid myself. I also love a good set of bubbles. People forget you can use them indoors!
I also enjoy solving word puzzles (like word searches) on a rainy day. There’s plenty of places to solve them for free, and you can even make your own! I’ll play for hours and not even realize it’s stopped raining.

Word puzzles are so much fun! I want me daughter to experience things that kept me busy while I was a child too. Thanks for sharing 🙂

  4. Where we leave in Massachusetts our mall has a free indoor playground. It’s literally the best playground I’ve been in. It’s huge. Clean. Fresh and totally free. I think I love it more than my son.
