Maybe you are saying hello to a family member on the other side of the world. Maybe you are letting your closest friends and relatives know what your family has been up to. Regardless of the reason, family greetings cards are a bit more complex than any other card you will ever send. They have to include a little bit of everything. It has to be well written as it’s a reflection from your family as a whole.

It also has to be unique because you want to project the image you live by which could be good morals, your faith, a specific culture or perhaps a family tradition you keep in high regard. Don’t forget you’re also sending this to friends too so it can’t be too personal about family matters but writing updates about your life is something that you should include. Where to begin?

Make it an occasion

The last thing you want for a family greetings card is a dull image imposed on the cover. You want it to stand out so perhaps hiring an artist to do a watercolor painting of your home or landscape is a great idea. Watercolor artists do not charge anywhere near what portrait artists do so it’s not an expense that will be too far over the line of what is affordable for a greetings card. However you can then impose photographs onto a watercolor background using stazon ink which helps to stick. So if want to put family photos onto the card that is now a watercolor surface, you can use this and it won’t smudge or drip off the surface layer. This is going the extra mile but you don’t send these kinds of cards out regularly so make it an occasion.

What to say from everyone?

A family greeting letter will have something written from the family as a whole as well. It’s like an update on everybody’s life in the household. Maybe you child has gotten into a school that is highly esteemed, maybe your child broke a limb but is now recovering, maybe your spouse got that promotion they have been waiting for. These kinds of things are what you should include in your family update.

However there comes the question whether the whole family should write something with their own hands? If you want it to look more formal then perhaps you should write what the kids say using their own words. On the other hand if it’s just more relaxed and fun, then allow the kids to write what they are doing in their lives. If anything it adds to the authenticity of the card and shows the whole family took part in giving everyone a greeting.

A Family Greeting

Make the greeting card from the family an occasion by hiring a photographer. Get well dressed and make an almost picturesque image of everyone together. This can then be stuck to a watercolor card of your house or landscape making it a blend of the various moments you had over the years.
