How To Bond With Your Baby In The First Few Months

Bonding With Baby

The first two months of your newborn’s life is, arguably the most important. It’s during these few months that you will solidify a bond with your baby. But, some parents don’t always feel a bond right away, and this can mean they will feel guilty, but it’s important to remember that babies don’t do that much at the very outset, but if you are keen to fix this and spend quality time with your newborn, what can you do?

Swaddling

Also known as baby wearing, the benefit of having your baby close to you encourages the hormone oxytocin. This promotes happiness and is that cuddly feeling you get when you’re emotionally close to someone. You can put your baby in a carrier and walk around with them, giving you the freedom to get outdoors but this baby carrier can be bulky and impractical. Other mothers opt for a sling, which might seem complex, but once you get the knack of it, it’s far better.

Baby Events

Some people don’t see the point in baby events, such as baby yoga and baby dancing, because they’re so young. Instead, why don’t you consider an activity that’s for the both of you? Going to a maternity photographer and having a photo session with you and your child playing will give you wonderful memories instead. During the first few months of your baby’s life, no doubt you will be taking a million pictures, but if you can get a professional to take some great quality images and have a few canvas prints, these will be treasured items in your household. It will remind you of the simpler times, especially the months before they start toddling!

Reading To Your Child

If you want your child to get ahead in life, you can start to read to them as soon as possible. The baby books around are stimulating for many different reasons, not just the auditory aspect of their learning, but the colors are going to appeal to their senses. Reading to your child gets them used to your voice, but it also helps to enhance their social skills. And once you get a child into reading, it’s something they’ll never outgrow.

Bath Time

You wouldn’t think this to be a proper bonding moment, but by spending time in the tub with them, you can play with them, and see them peaceful in their (almost) natural habitat. Babies love the water, so why don’t you take advantage of this, and get in the bath with them?

Quality time with your newborn can feel like quite a task, because babies don’t do much at this point, and as a result, you could find it difficult, or even boring. But it’s important to remember that these first few months are vital to their development. If you can engage with them as soon as possible, this will yield positive results further down the line. Their social skills will improve, they comprehension will be better, and you will both have a magnificent bond, which you can learn from, and carry onto the next one (if you’re ready, that is)!
